It doesn’t look too bad freshly applied but on my ultra dry skin it simply doesn’t offer enough moisture and the concealer looked increasingly worse as the day progressed. I don’t understand how Tarte could consider this “radiant” or “hydrating” in any way. However it was the finish that really killed any hopes I had for this concealer. I personally don’t care for the way this concealer smells and that alone was enough for me to send it back. Why cosmetics companies feel the need to add fragrance to face products I’ll never understand. I originally assumed that that was due to the peony, magnolia or licorice extracts included in the formula but going through the ingredients more carefully I realized that parfum/fragrance is one of the ingredients listed. To me the Shape Tape concealer has a very noticeable floral scent that lingers. As a disclaimer, though, I’m quite sensitive to fragrance. I don’t believe I’ve come across any reviews mentioning a scent but there definitely is one in my opinion. I feel like I get slightly better coverage from IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer which is probably my all time favorite concealer for coverage and finish.

For a cream concealer it’s on the thinner side and very lightweight but for a liquid concealer it’s quite thick and creamy.ĭespite Tarte’s full coverage claim, I consider the coverage as more medium to full. I’m not quite sure how I would classify the Shape Tape concealer, as a liquid or as a cream. For reference, I wear Fairly Light Neutral in Tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless Concealer but I like to go a bit darker with my under eye concealer because I think that does a better job of camouflaging very dark circles. If it had been available at the time I probably would’ve gone with the Light Neutral shade instead which is appropriate for people with light skin and yellow and pink undertones. Although I have yellow undertones to my skin it was my closest match and I planned on using the Shape Tape concealer primarily in my under eyes anyway, so even though I knew Light wouldn’t be an exact match I thought the pinkness would help brighten the under eye area. I purchased the shade Light which is meant for people with light skin and pink undertones. When I placed my order, the Shape Tape concealer was only available in six shades but they’ve since expanded the shade range to ten. Rather than use the wand which applied more product than I needed, I found it much easier to use a separate smaller concealer brush to grab a little concealer from the tip of the Shape Tape applicator and then used the brush to apply the concealer onto my face. This applicator makes it extremely difficult to lightly apply the concealer.Įvery time I pulled the wand applicator out of the tube, the stopper inside did a good job of scraping off the excess concealer from the sides of the doe foot wand but there was always a huge blob of concealer on the tip and slanted side of the doe foot. I have very dry skin and fine lines in my under eye area so I prefer to use my under eye concealers sparingly to avoid any sort of cakiness or creasing from happening. I’m not someone who likes to generously paint their under eye concealer onto their face in huge, thick, inverted triangles the way I’ve seen a lot of YouTube beauty gurus do.

I have to be honest, I’m not a fan of the applicator. The tube itself is rather fat and the Shape Tape applicator is like a standard lip gloss doe foot applicator on steroids. Everyone I’ve watched on YouTube who’s already reviewed this concealer has mentioned how huge the tube and applicator are but I was still taken aback when I finally received the product and saw it for myself.
